Our Story…..
Our first few months were very bleak to say the least, but pleased to say they have improved ten fold!!
And so our journey began…..
We made the move to Cornwall in search of a different way of life, and boy we found it!
We swapped out a perfectly lovely home and a high street floristry business for ‘Vera’, our very own bunker. The best decision we ever made, even though it’s been tough. She’s a conversion project and a half! The bunker was part of RNAS (Royal Naval Air Service) St Merryn during WW2 as a communications hub. It was hidden well, sitting low, earthed in at the sides and situated just off the airfield. The very nature of the building meant that it didn’t have any of the conventional power or water supply, so we’ve had a sharp learning curve into off-grid living.
We now produce all of our own power with solar panels and have our very own bore hole for water.
From the moment we bought the place we knew that we wanted to still create a hub. Starting with community bonfire nights our dream has grown. Holding music nights, followed by weddings really has brought the place to life. We decided to create a self-contained cabin, (The Bolt Hole), as to welcome more people to this special place and may the journey continue…..

RNAS ST Merryn, we are just out of shot but our bunker was used for communications throughout WW2

Hitting gold! This is the day our bore hole was drilled.

This is the old boiler room as we found it, hard to believe, but it's now our bedroom!

Power Captain!... these are our solar pannels along the front blast wall of the bunker.

Blast wall cut through, bunker dug out a little and doors in:)
